Hi, I’m Kira! I started teaching with the Hikmah Foundation because I wanted to be a force for good in my community. I have always had a passion for helping others, and I have found that one of the best ways to do this is through tutoring. The kids that we help are such an inspiration to me. Even after all the hardship they have gone through, they still have a passion for learning. I wanted to be a tutor so that I could help them reach the potential that I know all children have when given the opportunity to get an education. Tutoring has been so fulfilling for me, and my favorite part throughout this whole experience is the moment when a child has a breakthrough. When they finally understand what they have been working so hard to learn. Not only is it fulfilling for me as the teacher, but I love to see their eyes light up with belief and pride in themselves. I would encourage others to join because you have the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people from varying cultures and backgrounds that you may not have met otherwise. The first time I went to tutor, I had not previously met any of the kids or their families. I was a complete stranger to them, but they welcomed me into their home with loving hearts and eager minds to learn. Even though we are teaching them, I have learned so much about resilience and support by spending time with these refugee children and their loving families.
