During the pandemic, I began teaching children from Kashmir, who were affected by conflict, over Zoom. These kids, ranging from 7 to 13 years old, would join our Zoom calls, with around 50 to 60 participants in each session. Through this experience, I became acutely aware of the opportunity gap they faced and felt compelled to make a difference within my abilities.
In 2021, I established "The Hikmah Foundation." Together with many other high schoolers, we provide tutoring and support to refugee children on a weekly basis. Our tutoring sessions cater to both school-age children and young adults, assisting them as they adapt to life in American society. These families reside in central Pennsylvania or in South Kashmir. Getting to know them has profoundly impacted my perspective on life. Witnessing their resilience and hearing their stories has not only transformed me but also the girls I work with. Despite being high school students, we have made a positive impact on numerous lives and will continue to do so.
