Mackenzie Vanhoy

About Mackenzie

I started tutoring because I love to help people. I had informally tutored some classmates in math in the past, which had fueled my love for helping and teaching.

However, once that school year ended, so did the tutoring.

Still, I really enjoyed it and was looking to tutor again, then I found this club and was eager to join.

My favorite part about tutoring is the 'click' once the student understands something. Their eyes light up and they grab the paper back, keen on finishing the worksheet that had just been too difficult. Not only does it encourage them to take on new challenges, it also makes their love of learning grow. The mere thought that I'm able to bring this confidence to them makes everything worth it.

One benefit I have experienced from tutoring is the ability to communicate better. With tutoring, you have to explain a lot to make sure they understand the topic, which translates to everyday life because you can better explain feelings to loved ones. Another benefit I have experienced is the experience itself. I want to be a teacher when I'm older, so this experience will likely help when I start working with more kids in a classroom setting.
