About Mariam
Hi my name is Mariam and I started teaching with the Hikmah Foundation because I was inspired by what the organization was doing and how they give opportunities to refugees that were not as fortunate. I believe education is such an important resource that everyone needs and I wanted to be able to give that resource to people who don’t have access to it. My favorite part of teaching is getting to interact with many different students and getting to know their hardships and what they went through to come here. I remember one day where I went teaching and one of the girls that I taught had an experience where she was bullied at school because she was wore hijab and couldn’t speak english. She also couldn’t fully tell her story because she didn’t know how to speak english so it resonated with me and I wanted to make sure that would never happen again and if it did she would be able to tell her story. I would highly recommend joining the organization because you get to see how fortunate you are with the education that is available to you. I would also join because you get to experience so many amazing things that you wouldn’t be able to experience otherwise.
