About ZAHRA
I started teaching with the Hikmah Foundation because I have always loved working with kids. The organization encouraged me to become a tutor and help refugee children who needed the extra support. Being the oldest of 5, becoming a tutor taught me responsibility, and how to work with children with of conflict. My favorite part of being a tutor is being able to see the joy on their faces, when they finally get the hang of a topic, and their progression overall. It is also satisfying to be a tutor, and help kids who struggle with different topics like speaking English, math, and more. In fact, one of my favorite memories from teaching is with one of my students in particular, who due to her language barrier, had difficult time speaking and understanding English. At the beginning of our sessions , she was struggling with vowels, and the way words are pronounced and read. However, after a couple sessions, she started to feel much more confident and improved greatly, which was a proud moment for me as her tutor. The feeling you get from helping others, and being able to see the impact you make right in front of your eyes is unmatched. In a way, it also teaches you important life skills like patience, communication, and so much more.
